Jessica Mills is many things: actor, writer, producer, geek, and also hilarious. Most recently she launched a Kickstarter called Mission G.E.E.K. Jessica joins me on the podcast this week to talk about the origins of Awkward Embraces and why she needed two different Indie GoGo campaigns to complete the second season. I learn about the nuances of comedy writing. Finally, we cover everything you need to know about her latest project, Mission G.E.E.K., which you should strongly consider supporting. Enjoy.
Fun fact: The Headquarters for ThinkGeek.com are literally down the street from my newly purchased home. Up until a few weeks ago I did not know that. Lucky for me, Think Geek PR Manager Shane Peterman was willing to sit down and have a conversation with me for Episode 66 of the Just Talking Podcast. Our talk is naturally quite geeky, covering PR for Think Geek, PR for geeks, what it means (and meant) to be a geek, the continuing rise of geek culture. We also talk about the challenges of starting your own record store, why John Cusack’s life isn’t too bad, and we put the vinyl vs. digital audio debate to rest. (Not really, but it made for an interesting talk).
If you’re reading this, then you probably know that I’m a big geek. Some days my geekdom shines brighter than other days, but it’s always there. You can imagine the excitement felt when I discovered ‘Geek and Poke’. I think I was on one of my random Tumblr exploring adventures and stumbled across a posting linking back to this site and I’ve been hooked ever since. While some of the jokes might not be for you, I encourage you to check out the site. Who knows, you might like it. I’ve included a recent posting below the fold for your viewing pleasure. If geekdom doesn’t interest you, then you can just move along. Either way, I sincerely think ‘Geek and Poke’ is worth your time. Continue reading →
Normally I would save something like this for a Tumblr post since it doesn’t offer much beyond a simple link and a quick comment but I’m a little strapped for topics. To be fair, that isn’t entirely true, but I’m still mulling over how to address a specific topic that has been bothering me for a while but I have to be particularly careful with my tone and word choice so right now I’m going with the “best to say nothing” approach. In the grand scheme of things, it may not be that big of a deal, but there’s no sense in wasting the opportunity to stand on this lovely soapbox from time to time after I’ve spent nearly 500 posts (494 to be exact) building it up. We’ll see if anything comes of it. Anyway, back to what I was talking about.
