I like this.
As I continue to mull over ways to improve awareness within the diabetes community, I need to remember these educational moments are an opportunity, not a burden. I shouldn’t walk away from misinformation and ignorance, I should confront it. I shouldn’t be afraid to stand up for what I believe in.
What’s that bit about being the change you want to see in the world?
Opportunity, yes. But an obligation? A responsibility? I think we each draw our own line with when we’re comfortable stepping in and when it’s best to leave it alone. And that line could vary from hour to hour. (For instance, the time my pump errored while standing next to a PWD still living in the “diabetes dark ages” was NOT the time to promote technology!)

I really like that, too. Great line. Also, do see Scott’s point that we have to be in a place where we’re ready to take on that little advocacy, and that mindset changes for everyone and comes at different times. And some days, we just don’t have the energy to do more than half-smile and nod and walk away.
