The problem with taking something like Claritin is that if (or more likely) when it works you have to admit that your allergies are kicking in and kicking your butt.
I suppose there’s a parallel that could be drawn between how I treat my allergies and how I treat my diabetes. I often don’t acknowledge highs or lows until it’s absolutely critical that I do so. Even in this period of acceptance and relatively solid control, I can’t escape denial – even in its tiniest of forms.
While I won’t go so far as to say that I’m ignoring symptoms, there’s always room for improvement when it comes to recognizing AND treating a high or low blood glucose reading. It’s that part about taking action that sometimes gives me trouble.
At least Loratadine (Claritin) doesn’t affect your BG any more than the phases of the moon. Which is to say – who knows?
