“Does this taste like Diet Coke?”
“I’m not sure. Do you think she heard you say ‘Diet’?”
“I know! I’ll test it with my meter.”
“Are you sure that’s going to work?”
“Sure it is, I read it on a blog, it has to be true.

So that didn’t work as planned. It turns out you can’t dip a primed test strip directly into a suspect glass of soda.
Dayle then suggested testing my blood glucose after dipping my finger in the soda. That test came up at 440. The subsequent test on soda number two came up at 135.
So guess, dip, then test. Then blog about it.
I take the straw and put a droplet on the lid, then dip the test strip into it. With OneTouch it should come up as an error or LO. Basically, if you get any number – it’s got sugar in it. 😉

That is such a good idea! I have read that you can’t test pop directly. I will try you method the next time I’m served a pop that has that familiar syrupy taste.

Totally late on this comment, but I used to use ketone strips – they have the “glucose” pad and the “ketone” pad on them. One dip in a non-diet drink and the glucose pad turns crazy dark. Still – may be more of a pain in the butt to carry around ketone strips. I used to cut them in half so they could fit into my strip canister…I’m going to stop now. Nerd alert.
