Steady As She Goes

As indicated by the duck, my latest endocrinologist appointment went down a few days ago (please, spare me the 4/20 references). All is well in the diabetes department, A1c reported in at 6.0 again. I’m happy with that.

The duck has an excellent A1c

I called my parents to update them on my A1c and my mom asked me if I was still considering leaving Not House for a new endocrinologist. Honestly, I’m not considering it right now but I know where the nearest exit is case of emergency. I know I’ve had communication problems with my endocrinologist in the past, and for the most part I don’t feel like any of them have been resolved but from a personal health point of view I can’t complain too much.

The changes I need to make are entirely on my shoulders. Exercise. Diet. Diet. These are all on me. I’m comfortable with my insulin regimen and how I handle corrections and one-off diabetes moments. I’m comfortable with how I’m using my Dexcom CGM to manage lows and highs better. (Yes, I can do more with Dexcom, but if this is all I use it for, it shouldn’t get worse) I can’t fault my doctor for the things that are in my control. When I have questions, he answers them, when I need a prescription refill, he fulfills the requests. When I ask about the Boston Marathon, he talks about how he finished it. (Yes, my endo ran the Boston Marathon. Not too shabby)

So where do I go from here? The same place I’ve been going all along – along the same path working to a healthy me. I’ve mentioned the pieces of my life that I need to improve on and those changes are slowly coming into effect. See: Broccoli, Tour de Cure, occassionaly getting water instead of Diet Coke. Occasionally.

Also, I was the guest on DSMA Live last night. If you enjoy listening to my podcast but wish there was more of me talking, this is for you. If you don’t like my podcast and want the talk to focus on more diabetes, this is also for you. If you want to spend the next hour of your time smiling, this is definitely for you. Let me know what you think of the show!

  1. That’s a rockin A1c. I’d take it in a heartbeat. I think Diabetes requires we constantly strive to make better choices all the time. However, life (in your case Diet Coke) sometimes gets in the way. Test results prove you are doing a damn fine job.
