Despite my procrastination, and with the help of scheduled posting, I am proud to present the next episode of Just Talking. While this is Episode 41, technically it is just the second half of the conversation I had with Parris Lilly last week. There was a clean break in the content so it made sense to break things up, and it makes my job a lot easier while I’m at the beach. Speaking of, I’m at the beach. I love it here. I Would Walk

15,000 steps yesterday. This pedometer was provided through a work-related program that, I’m sure you can guess, revolves around walking each day. Since I’ve started using it I’ve really noticed that I spend a lot of time sitting down. Not in motion. Considering the types and quantities of food I’m eating this week, every step counts.

Five Miles

Is all it took to find pieces of the beach that barely look touched. At least I managed to wake up early enough to get on my bike before the masses arrived.

Technically bikes are prohibited on the boardwalk after 10:00am, but even at 9:15 it feels like you’re in an evil video game trying to bob and weave between bikers not sharing the space, families trying to get primetime placement on the sand, runners, and families in those bikes things made for 4. What the heck are those things?

I’m on Vacation

Well, technically I’m not on vacation yet, but I will be all next week. I didn’t have the forethought to plan for guest posts so I’ll be taking it upon myself to update during the week. The plan is to put up a paragraph or so from my phone, since WordPress is just one more thing that Droid Does. I’ll probably put up a picture or two from my day and try to think of a witty comment or two. I know it might seem like a cop-out to not really have something worth your time, and I do regret that I wont have anything meaningful for you next week. But, it’s my blog and while I will continue with my self imposed obligation to posting each weekday, I don’t want to stress about it. So you’ll get a little something from me, and I’ll resume my regular madness once August starts up.

As it turns out, I’ve published over 400 posts to date. I found out about this little trick that links to a random post from a blog a few months ago so I figured I’d include that link in each of my posts next week.

UncleGamer Radio

I got lucky with this week’s episode of Just Talking. As I am trying to coordinate my Internet obligations during the week of my vacation, I was handed a big present by my good friend Parris from TalkingAboutGames and FIlmTangent. I only had 2 bullet points on my notepad but we managed to record for over two hours. So, you get the first hour now, and the second hour while I’m enjoying sun and sand with my family. The first part focuses on the gaming side of things, but trust me, there are plenty of life lessons to be learned in this one. Next week we are talking about TV and film, specifically ‘Inception’, so if you haven’t seen it, you have your homework assignment before next Wednesday.

Just Talking – Episode 40: UncleGamer Radio

While familiar, there’s a lot that’s new and exciting about this episode of Just Talking. I welcome back Parris from TalkingAboutGames and FilmTangent in what became a lengthy discussion about all things Parris. This episode is part one, focusing on the video game aspect of his life. Curious about the status of UncleGamer Radio? Parris opens up about why he hasn’t felt like recording in a long while. Curious about how relationships with PR work? Parris also opens up, in great detail, about the good, bad and ugly side of being a ‘little guy’ trying to get access. Next week will be part two of our conversation focusing on film and television. A Wii Little Montage

So here’s a quick montage of accidents with the Wii. You know those warnings that show up on screen to remind people to make sure the Wiimote is properly secured and the area is clear so you can swing your arms around? Yea, they weren’t joking.

The Last Son of Krypton

Ut Prosim

I haven’t had that many posts on here about my time in Blacksburg. This is mostly because I am still doing plenty of “blog-worthy” things in my life right now so there’s no need to travel back down I-81 South. But that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten or will ever forget the pride I have from being part of an incredible school and an amazing community. You wear a Virginia Tech shirt or hat anywhere across the country and head nods and half grins are guaranteed to come your way. We roll deep. It is with this sense of pride and community that I welcome Matt, the Hokie Guru to my podcast. I consider Matt to be the Patient 0 of Hokies on Twitter. Start with him and he will lead you to any other Hokie you need to follow. You wont be sorry.

Just Talking – Episode 38: Ut Prosim

Ut Prosim. That I May Serve. That simple phrase means everything to a Hokie. This week I welcome Matt, the Hokie Guru to my podcast to talk all things Virginia Tech. Most of the time I say “all things” with a good deal of hyperbole, but this time I mean it. Our respective histories with the school, a detailed preview of the Men’s Basketball and Football seasons, and a some perspective on the tragedy of April 16th are all featured in this episode. There’s also some Frozen Four and NCAA commentary sprinkled on top, but believe me when I say it, this one is all about the Hokies. (The Day After) The Fourth of July

I know what you’re thinking – you’re thinking I forgot to post today. Well, you’re kinda right. I didn’t forget to post, I just didn’t have anything TO post. I had today off from work and decided to spend the day not worrying about things like a 90 minute commute, an overflowing inbox, and most of the Internet (including twitter for most of the day and this blog). But, it is a weekday, so I owe you something. And something you shall receive.

PS. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was unbelievably entertaining to me. I can’t explain it, and I can’t justify it, but I had a smile on my face from beginning to end.

PPS. Firefly is an amazing show (as is the movie ‘Serenity’). If you have Netflix, the entire series and the movie are available on Instant Watch. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

The Doctor of Funk

I pride myself on being able to strike up a podcast with a complete stranger and maintain an hour long conversation without too many awkward moments. But every now and then I have to break my own rules and go back to something, or someone familiar. If you follow me on twitter, @iam_spartacus, then you’ve probably seen me retweet a guy who calls himself @docfunk a lot. What you don’t know about @docfunk, until now, is that his real name is Sujoy and I’ve known him since Kindergarten. It was a real pleasure bringing him on my podcast this week. He’s actually responsible for the intro and interlude music you hear on this and any other podcast I produce. He’s also a huge sports fan, as you will find out.
