Diabetes…Dodged
Last week I mentioned playing dodgeball. Naturally the only thing I really knew was that the money was going to Joslin, which was sweet. A few days before the event I found out our team color/theme was green and a shirt was going to be provided. Now pre-blog Chris probably wouldn’t have participated in this, and if he did, I doubt he would have included additional pieces of flair for the occasion. But this is post-blog Chris…or is it just Chris?
The format was double-elimination so we were guaranteed at least 2 matches. I know this wasn’t supposed to be some kind of uber-professional dodgeball tournament, but I was pretty disappointed with the rule enforcement. Maybe everyone on our team was too honest, but stuff that we were getting called on was not for the other teams. From what I heard about the teams playing at the end we wouldn’t have had a chance against some of these maniacs, but a little consistency would have been nice. Once we got into a flow I had a few nice outs. I don’t think anyone feared my cannon or anything, but it felt good knocking some people out.
Speaking of “we”, our team was pretty money. I never saw the show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” but our team name, Electric Dream Machine is apparently a reference to that show. Obscure TV references aside, the uniforms were quite epic. We each got a shirt from PlayNakid.com (Nakid = No Adult Kickball Isn’t Dumb) and the rest of the green was up to each player. I opted for mis-matching green socks from Dick’s Sporting Goods and Dayle (who recruited me for dodgeball) and I found some green face paint that would substitute for eye black. The only thing I was missing was some kind of head gear, but the whole green search started a little late in the process.
As far as the dodgeball is concerned, we were eliminated after our second match. Regardless of the final score, I had a lot of fun and met some cool people. A lot of money was raised for the Joslin Diabetes Center and I think I might have been recruited to play for the Mmofos this spring. We shall see…if anything my Diabetes365 photos will be a lot more entertaining over the next few months.

The tournament looks like a lot of fun, and for a good cause. Way to rock the green socks.
That sounds like a lot of fun! And the green eye-black is awesome!
