Cabin Fever
The Snowpocalypse continues. We tested out the roads yesterday afternoon in the Explorer. I was not feeling too comfortable simply riding in a vehicle with 4 wheel drive, which means actually driving these roads in my Ford Fusion is not a wise idea. I spent part of Monday monitoring local news channels monitor how much snow has yet to be plowed from the roads. Thankfully the skies were clear and the sun give its best attempt at melting the 2+ feet of snow. Temperatures barely above freezing aren’t really going to help matters, but every little bit helps.
I remember a time when a snow-day was something to look forward to. Going to sleep wondering if the weather people would be right in their prediction of snow. The joy of waking up to a few inches of snow on the ground. Sitting on pins and needles waiting for the 2 hour delay to get the full upgrade to a day off from school. Those were the days. Sadly those days are behind me. Now snow is just a nuisance. If snowfall coincides with an approved vacation day or holiday then fine, but any other day, snow just adds to my commute. Normally a few inches of snow just means I have to suck it up, but almost 30 inches means that I am stuck at home with my work laptop on.
I typically look forward to the weekends because it is a time for rest and relaxation. As much as I complain about aspects of my job, it is still a job and I don’t feel like I am fully contributing if I am not there. So while the weather got in the way of driving to the main offices and I got to work in my sweatpants at home, there was still a part of me that surprisingly needed to be in my cube at work. Maybe this is a sign that I am growing up?
To put things in perspective, if you are reading this a month later, check out this scenario:
2/5/10 (Friday) – Lots of snow.
2/8/10 (Monday) – No snow, roads not entirely drivable.
2/9/10 (Tuesday) – More snow predicted, possibly another 10 inches?
2/15/10 (Monday) – Presidents Day (Company Holiday, no work).
Is it possible that I might not make it back to my office until next Tuesday? As much as I love this house, I am starting to develop a serious case of Cabin Fever. Hopefully it wont turn into that Eli Roth disaster…
(still not sure what this clip has to do with cabins…or pancakes…)

No offense, you Virginian you, but you don’t know cabin fever.
Just sayin’. ;-p
Or the real joy in a snow day…..rarity with schools, never for anything work related. Dang plows and snow tires.
Oh, right. I work from home. Whoops.
I am officially in my 20th year of school and I still look forward to snow days…though you are right, it can be a nuisance since I have to reschedule and make everything up now and this is half job/half school.
Dallas has about 2 inches of semi-stick snow today and people are freaking out because the universities aren’t canceling while the local schools are. The roads are fine but one of my co-workers rode his bike and got pelted by snowballs from crazy red-state elementary school kids.
tweet meme has you on their hot list for today ;D
