Quick Thoughts
I know this post could have more to it considering I’ve been snowed in since Friday evening. Depending on who you listen to and where you look, close to 30 inches of snow fell in my area. Dulles Airport reported 28.5, I measured 22 and 28 at different spots around the house. And to add a little extra icing to the cupcake, early weather reports have another 5 inches coming down Tuesday night. As of this post, the Federal Government is closed today (February 8, 2010) so I am very happy I brought my work laptop home. So instead of taking the time to pretend to be intellectual about some specific topic, I offer you a bunch of quick hits.
- My friend Alfred (@GHR_Maverick) has joined the DOC, if you haven’t yet, please send him some positive vibes. (PS, he was also on an episode of Just Talking a few months ago)
- I’m happy to report the Super Bowl was a very entertaining football game (again). I can’t wait for another 3 months of Brett Favre will he/wont he retire talk on all of the sports shows.
- I finally broke down and signed up for Netflix. The Instant Watch feature on my Xbox 360 is a gift from Mount Olympus, forged from the hands of Zeus. I love it.
- I need to put in for time off at my job for PAX East. Boston is only a few weeks away.
- Along with the football, of course there were the commercials. Why were there so many challenging man-hood? Also, what’s with people not wearing pants? Am I that out of touch with pop culture?
Finally, for what it’s worth, this was my favorite commercial. Maybe I’ve become numb to the beer commercials, maybe GoDaddy has the maturity of a 15 year old, maybe Doritos should try a little harder (except the dog collar one, that was funny), but I’m still thinking about this one from Google. I barely have an attention span for more than 15 minutes some days. It’s been a full day and I am still thinking about this one.
Thoughts?

I loved that commercial. It’s one of the few that I actually saw. (And yes, it made me tear up. What the hell is wrong with me?)
Boston coming SOON!
Yes, Christopher…the dockers commercials were scary..I am not sure that it left the audience with a feeling of wearing dockers or to purchase some cool underwear…I really love those etrade baby commercials….
Umm, I definitely liked the Doritos one with the little kid the best. Bitch slap FTW!
But don’t get me started on the gender stereotyping of the majority of those commercials. It was painful to watch, especially when the people we were with laughed and laughed and thought they were *so good*. I now know what’s wrong with America.
And honestly, nothing beats that Saints player holding up his little baby in the earphones, who just looked so happy to see his daddy so happy, he didn’t care that it was a billion hours past his bedtime. That made me choke up.
You just signed up for Netflix? Dude you have been missing out.
My favorite commercial was the Dorito’s commercial with the little kid that slapped that guy. That was hilarious.
I also kinda liked the Donte’s Inferno commercial. I’m still not gonna buy it but I loved the music.
I saw way too many dudes in underwear. I have no clue what the deal with that is.
My Blu Ray taps into our Netflix and it is off the hook!!
