Snow-Nine

December 21, 2009

The last genuine blizzard I remember was in 1995. For those of you keeping score at home, I was 11. I’m sure there has been significant snowfall in the past (almost) 15 years but ’95 stands out for me. I remember for some reason we had the movies ‘Clueless‘ and ‘Die Hard with a Vengeance‘ on VHS – remember VHS? Both of those movies were on a heavy rotation. I remember lots and lots of Monopoly being played. I remember actually wanting to go back to school after like 9 days stuck inside our home (including weekends).

Going to school at Virginia Tech was an interesting adventure as far as the weather is concerned. One day the weather was partly cloudy and about average temperature on my way to taking a test. An hour later, an inch of snow is on the ground. And for some reason, the administration officials on campus consider canceling classes to be the greatest atrocity on our culture. I think we had classes delayed once or twice, but no cancellations.

I bring up these quick stories about my fun with inclement weather because we just had a fun little bout with mother nature over the weekend. And her weapon of choice was snow. Lots and lots of snow.

THIS much snow!

If you follow me on twitter, you saw a crap-ton of pictures detailing the latest snowfall. It started with some flurries around the start of recording our latest episode of the Post Game Report. The snow started to really pick up after our recording had finished, 3 hours later. Give or take a hour or so, it stopped 27 hours later.

I spent most of my time on Saturday watching Season 3 of Dexter and playing Modern Warfare 2 (shocker). But I made a point of taking a picture every few hours to keep an eye on how much snow I would have to remove from my car when the dust (or is it snow?) had settled.

Resisting a "TWSS" moment...

Depending on where you measure, recorded snowfall ranges from 16 to 20 inches. There are more pictures on my flickr page documenting the extent of the snow – if you enjoy looking at stuff like that.

And you, my eager reader – How much snow did you get? Do you have a bad ass Jeep to go joy-riding in? If eligible, did you get any days off from school?

Happy Holidays

    Holy snow Batman!

If you could, send all of that snow my way? Thanks.
Preferably in big amounts of fluffy, light, sparkly handfuls.

I still can’t believe how much snow you got. A bit jealous.

A dusting at best. And it’s Winter Break here, so everyone’s off school regardless.

BTW, how far is Norfolk from you?

yep, being in NoVA also… we got the same. I made it to work today after my husband uncovered my car. We were too lazy to do it yesterday. Roads werent too bad once you got out of the neighborhoods. The mall parking lot, was way cleaner than the roads though. ha~

I am here in chicago and we got about 1 or 2 inches over the entire weekend with an average 35 degrees. Keep the snow where you are. We are enjoying this mild winter that officially began today
